Current Research Interests

When do both males and females defend the same territory? Is there a seasonal pattern to territory defense when comparing pre-breeding to during breeding playbacks?

Observations and Experiments

Is parental care shared equally in systems with no extra-pair young? How do males/females divide the task of caring for the young? Are vocalizations associated with attentiveness at the nest? Are parents in better condition able to raise more offspring than those in poorer condition?

Observations and experiments

How does the behavior of a temperate zone species compare with a tropical one? Are the same patterns of territory defense found between males and females of the temperate zone bird, the Carolina Wren, different from the patterns of defense in a tropical zone bird, the Moustached Wren.
