I hope to spend a year studying abroad at the
American University in Cairo. I have been accepted into the program by the UNC
study abroad office, but I am still undecided about whether to go during my
sophomore or junior year, and whether to go for a semester or for a year.
GOALS:
| To learn to speak & write Arabic proficiently | |
| To gain an understanding of the Arab culture & lifestyle | |
| To make lasting relationships with the other students at AUC | |
| To gain contacts in the Arab world for the future | |
| To see as much of Egypt, Africa, the Middle East & Europe as possible! |
WHAT I WOULD DO:
| I would go to AUC, taking 12 to 18 hours of class per semester | |
| Other than my Arabic classes, all my courses would be in English | |
| I would probably try to get involved in volleyball & a local cultural activity | |
| I would travel on some weekends & during breaks | |
| In short, I would try to do as the Egyptians do... |
WHAT CLASSES I MIGHT TAKE:
| Egyptology: Architecture, History, Art, Society | |
| Linguistics | |
| Photography | |
| Introduction to Islam | |
| Intensive Arabic | |
| Psychology | |
| Arab Literature |
