Chancellorsville, May 1, 1863- Jackson stops Hooker's March into Lee's Rear

On May 1st, 1863 Hooker's Army of the Potomac had completed a successful flank march against the Army of Northern Virginia at Fredericksburg. Hooker sent three advance columns out from his base at Chancellorsville along the roads leading into the Confederate rear. Lee, seemingly caught in a trap between two powerful Union forces, directs Stonewall Jackson to lead the defense of the rear and push Hooker back.
