Franklin's Left Grand Division with reinforcements breaks through Jackson's line, but a desperate counterattack by Jubal Early eventually dislodges the Union.
Confederates- Law's Brigade, Jackson's Corps, Stuart Cavalry
Union- I Corps Reynolds, III Corps Birney and Sickles Divisions, VI Corps Smith Howe and Newton's Divisions, Bayard's Cav., Left Artillery.
1) Law's Brigade is the only confederate unit from Longstreet's First Corps. Neither Hood nor Longstreet are around to give him any commander bonuses, but his orders are to advance and hit the flank of the union attackers after they hit A.P. Hill. Thus, he is frozen until a charge occurs by the Union upon a brigade in Hill's Division, at which point he must move to flank them.
2) D.H. Hill's Division just marched in and is only +1 for fresh for manuever and charge rolls.
3) The confederate position is +2 (+1 for woods and +1 for uphill) if all union units are downhill, but is only +1 for woods if any attacking union units are on the hill.
4) The union has the option to spend up to the first four turns bombarding, mostly to neutralize the confederate artillery. If they choose to start moving on any turn no further bombardment possible. Bombardment turns have only any artillery/infantry pivoting phase (everyone is keeping their heads down) and fire phases for both sides.(These turns should go very quickly).
The scenario starts at 0900 when Meade realizes he had better delay the attack for counterbattery fire, and ends after 1700.
The Union must have a non-spent brigade upon the first level of hill at the end of the day. A tactical victory is achieved if they own the top of Prospect Hill. Any other result is a confederate victory.
Newtons's Division is just coming on when the bombardment freezes everyone, and so is Bayard's Cav (the white box near Newton). Sickles follows on the 3rd turn after bombardment stops.
Doubleday and to a lesser extent, Reynolds, was worried about a Confederate attack on the exposed end of the line, while D.H. Hill was worried about all that Union artillery he would have to go through and he just marched in that morning. Nevertheless, allow D.H. Hill to attack with a +2 fresh along with Early and Stuart, if they attack all bombardment rules end. (We were going to soften them up so they came out at us, Reynolds reports later.) If Hill attacks, the victory conditions for the CSA change to must drive USA into river.
