Civil Rights Movement Web Pages
As part of their Freedom Summer '99 computer lab class, students used the Internet to conduct research on the civil rights movement. Choosing a particular person or event from the movement, they then created their own web pages displaying their research papers. Please read through their work to learn more about the movement.

At Freedom Project, we believe that education is valuable and families can and should be expected to sacrifice to provide top-quality educational opportunities for their children. If our Freedom Summer programs were free, then students may not take them seriously enough. We demand hard work, daily attendance, and full participation; by requiring students to raise $200 for their tuition, we insure that they will be committed to our project. At the same time, however, we want to make sure that all children have the opportunity to raise their tuition, so we hold local fundraisers several times during the year. All children who want to attend Freedom Summer have the chance to do so.
The true cost of Freedom Summer, however, runs close to $700 per student -- quite an efficient use of resources, considering that we provide six weeks of classes, a student-teacher ratio of 7 to 1, and more than a week of educational travel. Most of our funding comes from individual donations, corporate contributions, and foundation grants.
We would like to thank all the generous donors who have made the Sunflower County Freedom Project possible. Dozens of people from all across the nation have sent money and books or offered their services free of charge to help make the Freedom Project a reality. We extend a special thanks to our major funders:
