Moving images have powerful effects on humans but
we do not understand much about these effects and how new digital video
technologies influence creation, access, use, and reuse of these records or
human expressions. For the past decade, we have been investigating how
digital video can be made more accessible to people, how people make sense of
videos found in digital video libraries, and how digital video is used in education.
In this talk, our work in developing the Open Video Digital Library (http://open-video.org), investigating how
contextual information can be added to digital video archives (http://ils.unc.edu/vidarch), and to
initiate the UNC YouTube channel (http://youtube.com/uncchappelhill) will be
used as a basis for considering how digital video can be integrated into
text-dominated information and communication sciences and launch a
conversation about next steps for research, teaching, and the enjoyment of
life. |
