For the uninitiated, "Remember WENN" follows the zany and dramatic moments at radio station WENN during the war years of the early 1940's. Despite a strong fan base, dedicated fans and cast, and high quality, it was cancelled by AMC. With the 1940's culture coming back in style, with the swing culture being embraced by the twentysomething crowd, now would be the perfect time for a show like WENN.
Obviously AMC has not gotten the message. For some reason, they had an inexpensive to produce show of the highest quality with a rabidly wild fan base and yet... they choose to treat us like poopie. It's amazingly disillusioning that such a fantastic show as RW could be subject to cancellation. It is not a typical television show; the dramatic moments are really dramatic and the comedic moments are legitimately funny. This may be an astounding idea for our wacky modern world, but I rather like it.
I consider myself a person with an at least somewhat adequate association with reality. Yet, once a week, I become completely immersed in this bizarre alternate universe. To us, the fans, these are more than characters on a show. They are friends, people we know and love. To quote Betty Roberts, they are the extra funny uncle or annoying big brother. If you kill this show then you kill these wonderful characters and this wonderful world that so many have come to adore. Let's face it - I'll never find a real Betty Roberts. But as long as RW lives, it'll seem as if I know one.
I wish there was some way to impress upon AMC the importance of this show. As a follower of the mass media, I believe that any quality programming that might luckily happen upon the scene must be supported. Doing away with the show is a disaster of the highest magnitude.
So, we can continue to fight. It might seem futile but we have to try. Even if I have to throw myself off of the eighth floor of the bloody Glickman Building I'll use every Sherwoodish scam within me to keep this show afloat. Together, we can do it.
So what to do? If you have any special ideas, email me. There are also other things you can do. Many organizations can be emailed and encouraged to support WENN. Snail mail, an even more effective medium, can also be used. I encourage you all to write AMC and their parent corporation and tell them how much this show means to Western Civilization as a whole.
If things don't improve, I have a few more plans up my sleeve. We have to pull out the big guns. WENN has such a great future if we don't let it die... there's still so much to be done! So start writing and good luck!
Very Exciting....
