We are currently designing the Desk Warrior class. The content of this class will be more procedure oriented and will include all aspects of the User Services Desk except money handling and confidential patron information. The quizzes will be connected to a database so we can track the progress of each student. Some of the topics covered in Desk Warrior are checking out and renewing books, how to report building problems and emergency evacuation procedures.
We will continue to refine existing modules as we develop our software skills, by adding more complex graphics and sound, and by improving animation. We hope to provide a more exciting leveling up event, when students complete a class character.
Plans to incorporate an alternate reality game into the training are underway. A trailhead or rabbit hole to open the game has been embedded into the mo duel called "FindIt!." We are currently working out the details for playing this game. An ARG is a game that follows a narrative using real world items to solve problems, often using multiple media. Our ARG will being with a notebook shelved in the stacks. It provides information about how to access a wiki where the students can collaborate as the game progresses. The story concerns a researcher in our library who believes his work is being sabotaged by a rival. He need the students help in catching the perpetrator
We hope the ARG will encourage our students to develop team skills, improve their knowledge of library functions and help them feel like they are part of the library.
