Children’s Books Illustrators (mini-DF project)

based on Judith Saltman’s The Riverside Anthology of Children’s Literature (Chapter 5)

Zena Sutherland’s Children & Books (9^th ed; chapter 5)

Go to Sils or any Children’s library. Find 3 works by 1 illustrator (or 1 work by 3 illustrators) and consider some of the following issues:

What’s particular or original about his / her illustrations?
Describe any new illustration process.
Establish historical context where necessary.
How does the illustrator help or hinder the crucial interplay between text and art?
Give a short bio. of the illustrator. (You may have to use other reference books for that, such as the DLB, also available in Sils.)
Other interesting information.

Critically evaluate the artist & his work and report what you find on the DF (cite any sources you use and include any interesting web addresses). Try to spur an engaging conversation with regards to these "modern" adaptations of some rather ancient texts. Offer advice on which works / texts are work a look.
Extra credit: Find five (5) or more interesting and informative web sites about your author and his/her works. Create links on your web page with 100 word informative & evaluative annotations about the sites. Give me a copy
