Style (precision and clarity)

Considering the word limitations (see the assignment sheet), has the author used the most precise words?

Has the author used the correct tense (review Allyn & Bacon's tips. See brown section on p. 727)?

Help the author eliminate "to be" verbs. [am, is, are, was, were, be, being, become, been]
