Manuscripts should be
submitted to the editors in the first instance in digital form
(preferably as an MS Word or PDF document and sent as email
attachment). All
submissions are reviewed by at
least two external referees. While members of the AEA Editorial Board
may serve as reviewers, mauscripts are generally sent out to one or
more expert readers exclusive of the board.
Consult past issues of AEA
for style and format. Abbreviations should follow those
in common use (see
American Journal
of Archaeology 111 [2007] 14-34).
I. References:
All references should appear in the final text as
footnotes, but for editorial reasons it is recommended to arrange them
in the manuscript
as
endnotes. Acknowledgements and abbreviations should be given in the
first
footnote. Consult past issues of AEA
for style and format.
References to (a) books,
(b)
articles, (c) series, and (d) edited volumes (ed., eds) should be
rendered as follows:
(a) J.D.S. PENDLEBURY, The Archaeology of Crete (London 1939),
137.
(b) J.D.S. PENDLEBURY, Lasithi in Ancient Times, BSA 36
(1935/36),
194-200.
(c) E. HALLAGER, The Master Impression. A Clay Sealing
from the
Greek-Swedish Excavations at Kastelli, Khania (SIMA 69, Goteborg 1985),
23.
(d) K. BRANIGAN, Craft Specialisation in Minoan Crete,
in O.KRZYSZKOWSKA & L. NIXON (eds.), Minoan Society. Proceedings of
the Cambridge Colloquium 1981 (Bristol 1983),
23-32.
Subsequent references to the same author in the same
footnote should use
IDEM, EADEM. References to the same publication in subsequent
footnotes should
be given as follows:
PENDLEBURY (n. 12), fig. 15. Do not use italic, bold
face, or underline in references; the names of authors and editors
should alone be written
in upper case. Abbreviations should follow those
in common use (see
American Journal
of Archaeology 111 [2007] 14-34).
II. Page limit and
illustrations:
There is no page limit for the articles submitted to Aegean Archaeology, but in the case of a
very long article, a page limit may be suggested by the external
reviewers or
editors. There is no limit on the number of line drawings. Unless
photographs present entirely new material and original views of sites,
excavation contexts, landscapes and excavated objects,
authors should
try to
limit half tones to a reasonable number considered absolutely necessary
for presentation
of
arguments.
Photographs and line art should be submitted in their
final form in TIFF
format,
preferably in gray
scale mode, with a resolution of 300-600 dpi for photographs (half
tones),
and
600-1200 dpi for black and white drawings (line art). If the image is
combined
line art and half tone, then a 600 dpi resolution is desireable.
III. Language and format:
All the texts should be written in English and submitted
in their final form in hard
copy as well as a CD or diskette using either Word Perfect or Microsoft
Word (in
PC
format).
IV. Submission:
Manuscripts intended for consideration should be
submitted in the
first instance
as digital copy (email attachment in MS Word or PDF) or paper copy to:
