Internships and Summer Jobs

4Work Home Page. 4Work contains national internships in fields ranging from bartending to tennis. Very easy to use and operate, this site contains valuable information for how to find internships in your area. This is a great page for the college student who really isn't sure what's right for him.

Binghampton Computer Science Intern/CO-op Program. This page can help anyone looking for an internship in computer science. It shows job requirements and samples were also offered.

Boston.com Internships. This page has an easy-to-use search engine that lets you search for jobs by field, weekly hour requirement, pay, and location. It gives a list of companies that have internships, and who to contact. The list of job descriptions are very brief and not very helpful, but the page is a good starting point when searching for an internship.

Career Magazine. This page lets you search jobs by typing in location and skills. Because you have to type in the information, it is often hard to be specific enough for the search engine. Although often difficu lt to find, the job descriptions are very in-depth and helpful.

CareerPath.com. This page is an online computer database of job openings from newspaper classifieds. It gives helpful tips on how to use the search engine, and it lets you search by newspaper, job category, keywo rd, and the week you want to search (past two weeks only). It is limited to only newspapers of major cities, and because of the sources, job descriptions are not very in-depth.

CKS Internships. This page is a general application for internships at CKS. It inquires about areas of interest and special skills in television production and programming.

College/Grad/JobHunter. The College Grad Hunter lists titles such as job postings and job preparation, providing a wide spectrum of options. The site offers a search site icon which allows a job hunter to instantl y have access to many available jobs. The site is laid out in a very organized fashion listing options in the order of importance and providing the average college student with a great opportunity to have many resources directly at hand.

Coolworks. Anyone interested in a summer job that requires travel and adventure should check this page out. Summer jobs at national and state parks, ski resorts, cruise lines, and camps are listed. There are thousan ds of summer opportunities available to choose from.

DTH - Classifieds. There are life gaurding positions offered around the area for the Carolina student that has an interest in life guarding for the summer. The only drawback is that pr evious experience and a life guarding certificate are required.

EPA Summer Internships. Students seeking paid environmentally oriented internships throughout the US would find this page useful provided they find it; the page's title must be searched after entering the website. Thi s page clearly states the internship's requirements.

IBM Club Cyberblue . The internship offered by IBM is geared to those who wish to enter either technical or business fields. The site tells of an internship that would greatly help a young professional or a stude nt get a good start on their career. The page tells what kind of professionals the company is looking for, and the advantages this internship offers. This page would be incredibly helpful to those of us who are of a technical or business minded nature. It was very easy to access, and very user friendly.

IBM Cooperative Education Program and Internships . The IBM Cooperative Education Program and Internships Page provides a general overview of the corporation's principal objectives concerning student i nterns. It is an excellent source for students who are seeking real-world employment experienc; as well as possible post graduate employment. The author includes a list of relevant degrees and locations in the United States.

Intern-NET: Search for an Internship. The Intern-NET homepage allows users to search for internships by categories: Commercial Recreation & Tourism; Therapeutic Recreation; Parks & Outdoor Recreation; Hos pitality; Environment Interpretation/ Education; Sports, Fitness, and Health; and Municipal/ Non-Profit Recreational. This page is not too elaborate, but if the user is interested in one of these fields, the page will prove very useful.

Internships.com. This page is helpful because it offers a search option for specific internship topics. Also, it gives three links, two of which are only applicable for the Washington, D.C. area. The third link is a "searchable directory of internships," which lists opportunities in all professional arenas. This link seems especially useful for college students seeking internships.

Internships in Historic Preservation. This page is a list of internships compiled by Cornell. Many of the jobs are for federal agencies, and the description given is vague. This page is not he lpful in searching for an internship because the database to draw from is limited.

Internship in Youth Development Agencies. This web page is the home to links for over 2000 paid and unpaid internships which involve working with youth and their families. The simple page lets users choose the category and location that they wish to find internship information about. Loading time is fast and a feedback form is provided to state your opinion about what needs improvement.

Internships-Raleigh, NC. This page gives information about "The Student's Guide to North Carolina Internships & Part-Time Employment." The Guide discusses internships in the format of five chapters, each discussing job opportunities in different areas. To name a few, Chapter 1 presents general information about how to apply for an internship, Chapter 2 describes opportunities in business, and Chapter 4 discusses government employment. The page also provides a link for obtaining an order form for the Guide, a very helpful source for students serious about internships.

JOBTRAK. JOBTRAK lists Nationwide internships and allows the user to post their resume so it is available for company use. Users can search for internships by location, job description, s pecific organizations, and state lists. This page is basic and will prove useful in internship searching.

Jobweb Jobs and Career Opportunities. This page has a search engine that lets you search by keyword and location, but it is somewhat hard to narrow your selections. Although the search engine causes more t rouble than it is worth, the page also has an Employer Directory, which provides a long list of companies that have internships; however, it doesn't tell about specific jobs. The page is valuable, but follow-up with the company is definitely required.

Kendall Whaling Museum / Internship Program. For individuals interested in the arts, this page is perfect because it describes museum internships for all levels of study ranging from underg raduate to professional to international. Though loading time is slow and may take a few reloads, the URL has pages which describe the museum located in Sharoh, Massachusetts. Overall, this page is limited in details, but a good start for finding a museum internship.

Live, Learn & Intern. The Live, Learn & Intern page is an effective tool for students looking for a federal government internship. Interns can earn money while taking classes at Georgetown University or three other local institutes. If the course is as impressive as the homepage, it is destined to be a success.

National Internships Homepage. This link will be quite useful. That is, if you don't mind spending a few dollars. In order to receive any information from the National company you must first purchase their catalo gue. This link sports great graphics and loads pretty fast.

New England Aquarium. The New England Homepage was very helpful and informative. It gave many research internships, including how to get them, relating to the area of marine biology. Although the internships we re only for college credit, they seemed very interesting and exciting. This page's neatness and attractiveness was also a plus.

North Carolina Amateur Sports. This page offers little insight to what they are offering. The only thing that they make clear is that there is an open deadlin e. To be eligible for any of their internships you must be a current student or a recent grad.

NC Institute of Government. If you are interested in gaining Co-op experience, but do not see a job that interests you this would be something to check into. They will work with you r major and help you find a program that suits your needs.

The Peaks Resort and Spa. The Peaks Resort and Spa offers a summer or winter employment to those looking to have fun outdoors. This site tells of all the possible career an employee woul d have open to them, and the advantages to working in the Rockies. This site was accessible and helpful to those of us working on or pursuing a career in hotel management.

Project Vote Smart. The Project Vote Smart Internship Page describes a unique opportunity available to all students. Students interested in politics can take advantage of the various inter n responsibilities such as compiling performance evaluations and campaign finance information, putting out national surveys and operating a database. The page also mentions the beautiful area of the country in which the intern spends the summer.

Smithsonian Internship Opportunities. The Smithsonian Homepage alerts users of internships offered to people of a minimum undergraduate level. The Center for Museum Studies coordinates an inter nship referral service for all the Smithsonian programs. There is also an annual summer internship offered for graduating high school seniors through the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. This page will help users interested in museum work.

Student Search System, Inc. Home Page. The Student Search System page is a complex page for searching for entry-level jobs. The search is centered around technical jobs for college students and graduates. The page would not be very helpful for anyone who is seeking a nontechnical and short internship.

Summer Internships in Parallel Processing. This page is perfect for those interested in taking their computer skills abroad. Internships are available at different universities such as Oxford and are sponsored by a Swiss scientific computing firm. This URL allocates one page to each program and gives phone numbers and fax numbers of contacts. It is easily accessible and quite detailed, but the major drawback is that it was last revised in 1995. The internships could be available, but no direct information is given on how to find out.

Summer Jobs.This page lists national and international summer job opportunities. Over thirty countries post jobs which are updated weekly. Positions range from cruise line employee to sales executive.

Taylor Banks Internship Section. This section lists both internship databases and a variety of internships around the world, ranging from environmental to media careers. Although the databases offer great searches, skip the internship listings because they are no help, since they have just one descriptive sentence.

Tripod Lifelong Learning: Internships. The 1996-1997 edition of the National Directory of Interships is the database used on this site. A choice can be made of a field of study and/or location or ju st use keywords. The page is easy to use and there are a great variety of internships listed. The only way this page is not helpful is if an internship is not wanted.
University Painters- The Educated Choice. Although the page is nothing more than a letter by the CEO of the company, the salary of over $10,000 and managerial experience speaks for itself. There is a toll free num ber to call if there are any questions and you can even apply online. Definitely one to look into.

Woodberry Forest Summer School Internship. This page provides information about the internship such as duration of the internship and what particular jobs i t entails. Although it does provide a number to call for the information about the internship, it provides no links to the people offering the internship. It can, however, be very useful to those seeking a career in education.

Working for a Living. This page helps students who are looking for a summer job. It advises them to sign up for jobs as early as the fall semester and provides some places to look, like Manpower Temporary Services for students in Manhattan.

Yahoo Internships and Summer Jobs. This page is a perfect starting point for college students or anyone exploring careers. It contains a directory of internships that cove rs all types of positions. A very useable and helpful page.


Career Services

Resume and Cover Letter Development, Interviewing Tips, Career Service Agencies

AAAA Job Resume Services. This by far was the best page I visited. It was very attractive, easily accessible, and very eye-catching. Although there was no actual information to use straight from the page, there were plenty of people and places to contact that will give advice and correct resumes.

Access Careers & Job Resources. Access Careers provides career searching people with the ability to access useful links on job topics. Topics such as decision making, manipulating salaries, and searching for jobs are just a few. It takes you step by step through the process of job searching. If anyone needs additional job hunting knowledge and more career links to job sites, this is the place to search.

ADVOCATE Career Services. This nine-page source gives in depth career information for military personnel making the transition to civilian life. Links include career marketing tools and federal job applications. This page provides tips for resumes and cover letters, along with an address and telephone number to ADVOCATE Career Services. The page is very useful, but it is only applicable to people in the military.

Archeus: Worksearch Resources. In a professional style, this web page covers resumes, interviews, and cover letters in an easy to understand manner. Under each topic heading there is a list of book s available and on-line articles which can be accessed. Though this link is slow, it is very useful because it provides all the necessary information needed for a good job application in one URL.

Biddeford Career Planning Services. This page was boring but it could be very helpful. It gave help on how to write and improve resumes and cover letters. It also gave information on seminars and people to contact for individual appointments to better your resumes and cover letters.

Blackwell & Associates.This page is for people needing career management and offers career transition and career marketing services. It is useful for anyone interested in promoting self development skills and enhancing career growth.

Butler Career Services. One can search for any job in any major through this homepage. It divides into sections such as non-profit, finance, international, and science to help the job seeker. Th e homepage is very useful for college students who do not know where to start looking for a job in their field.

CareerCity. The CareerCity Page provides an overview of the entire job hunting process. Ranging from the initial job search to appropriate dress for an interview, CareerCity is an excellent source of information for the college student seeking his or her first full-time job.

Career Ladders. Career Ladders is a great homepage for students who are just entering the job world. This site offers services in "placement assistance" and help with resumes and cover letters; which co uld really benefit a job seeker. The page also contains impressive graphics and is easy to navigate around in. This page is a definite must for all people looking for help in finding a career.

Career Mosaic Sample Resumes. The sample resumes this page offers are very helpful to those who are curios or need to know how to put one together. This page offers a detailed explanation of three different methods of writing a resume with a specific example of each type. This location was somewhat accessible and fairly easy to read. It is also very helpful for future job applications and interviews.

Career Planning, Job Hunting, and Resume Writing Bookstore. Just as the title suggests, this page lists and describes books available through the Internet which are helpful for job searching. This is an ideal page if looking for an index of hard copy information which can be purchased from home, but is not helpful when trying to get information directly off the Internet. In general, the URL homepage has an awkward setup and a slow loading time, but go od descriptions about available books.

Career Planning Process. The Career Planning Process is geared towards students who have yet to declare a major. It provides a program to help steer students toward a career f itting their personality. In addition, this site takes the user through the world of work in order to narrow occupational choices. It then helps the student with internship opportunities and graduate school. This location was easily accessed and infinitel y helpful to those of us who haven't chosen a career as of yet. Absolutely worth reading if major is still undecided.

Career Service, Your Ticket To A Brighter Future. This site will really help in job search or just about anything else. Some of its services include expert career assistance, a workforce analysis, and connect ion to employment clearing houses. These services are free to members of the organization, and others have a nominal fee.

Career Web. Great starting point page for anyone searching for a job. Provides positions, careers, and employers for all types of jobs. Special section for people trying to find a job they will enjoy. A thoroughly helpfu l page.

Creative Job Search : Dress and Grooming for Job Search Success. This site is one page that covers all the important aspects of dress and grooming to keep in mind for searching for a job. It is very helpful for people who are on their first job search.

Elkins Career Planning Services. This article is informative and useful for college students needing help with career planning. Services include "the career planning process, resume and cover l etter development, and the employment interview." This page gives a mailing address, through which appointments can be made and additional information can be obtained.

General Job Search Information. The General Job Search Information homepage lists important things to have and to know when looking for a job. The page stresses having a very thorough and effic ient resume when applying for jobs. For help in writing resumes, the page gives examples for the user to observe. This page will be useful for a newcomer to the job hunting field.

Guidance Test and Resources Collection. This site explains the various tests and other resources that one can use in acquiring information. This site is devoted to providing the helpful testing needed for learning the essentials in job search knowledge. The testing along with the access to the varying resources provides a good source of prepatory information for those people initializing a job search.

Guides for specific careers. This site gives information about links to many different careers. The specific links have other useful information and interesting home pages. Career information will be given by linking to the desired area. This seems suitable for those who are undecided about their career.

JobBank USA. JobBank offers a Resume Database; to which a student can post a copy of his or her resume. An employer might find it among the hundreds of other resumes but the odds are against it. However, the page i s helpful because it provides a link to Jobs MetaSEARCH, an accessible site that downloads information from the Internet's largest employment databases.

JobCenter Employment Services. This page offers a variety of subheadings including program users, terms to join, and posting a resume. The service provides employment searchers a broad scale alternative for resume circulation and costs only $20 per six months. Sounds like a great, hassle-free way to search for employment!

JobCenter Resume Tips. JobCenter Resume Tips. This article provides numerous tips for "writing an effective resume," including correct format and content. The page is very clear and understandable, and it is a great source to consult before attempting a professional resume. This page even gives an opportunity to have a resume critiqued free of charge and an e-mail address for more details.

Job Resources. This page can help people having problems with their resumes and interviews. It offers possibilities for people to find better jobs and even help to start their own company.

Job Search Advice to '96 Graduates. This page is a brief list of things for graduates to keep in mind as they search for a job. The pointers aren't very helpful and are common knowled ge. This page is only useful for a recent college graduate on their first job search.

What does your resume say about you?. This page was very accessible and I was able to easily move around in it. Only resume help and information on writing resumes was offered, but for only $25, you ca n send in your resume to an address provided and receive corrections and recommendations on how to better your resume.

(MSU) Office of Career Services. This page provides a list of various resources available for job hunting. For example, the resume page suggests that students read the book A Guide to Career Planning and Job Hunting and attend certain workshops. Though this page has helpful background information, it seems to be geared more towards the students of this particular university. It could be a helpful visit, but also confusing since the pa ge is not well organized.

My Future Inc. This page loads very slowly. After waiting ten minutes or so, you will find that this page is not directed towards college students. Although this page is not for us, it does have a very useful resume program. I recommend trying this page.

NCS Career Magazine. This web page is provides links to job openings, employer profiles, and a resume bank. The NCS Career Magazine would be beneficial to anyone looking for work in any area.

On-line career and management consulting. This page, like all the other career service pages, gave help with writing resumes. It was very accessible and easy to move around in. Not only did it give help with wri ting resumes, it was the only page to give advice on interviews which was extremely helpful.

The Riley Guide. This site is a straight forward discussion concerning the many sources for job opportunities that The Riley Guide provides. It provides insight on how to plan careers and on job cha racteristics and requirements. This site would prove to be very useful to those people who want to inquire about several jobs.

Student Center. This gives the how-to's such as how to write a resume or begin a job search. This service allows users to read interviews with real professionals, learn how to network and other things in these c ategories. It is very useful if you want to know how to go about finding a job and where to start. It is very easy to use and very accessible.

UNC University Career Services. The University Career Services homepage describes the services the UCS has to offer. The service assists students who know their career direction and tries to find them inter nships and job market information, and acquire adequate job hunting skills and strategies. For users interested in more information, the page provides the address, phone number, and e-mail address for the USC's main office.

UNC Career Services Practice Interviews.This homepage offers information about a program that offers people an opportunity to help plan and practice interviews. Your interview can be videotape d and corrected. However, a copy of your resume must be presented before the practice interview.

UNC Career Services resume writing information. This program offers resume writing tips, seminars, and workshops, and it provides the addresses of people who will read and analyze and correct your resume. This program may be suited for anyone searching for a job that requires a resume.

University of Virginia Commerce Career Services Student Guide 1995-96. Commerce's homepage breaks into sections such as mock interviews, workshops, and resume critiques. While it is useful when enhancing one's resume, it does not tell what jobs are available for the college student.


Job Listings and Directories

Australian Jobs. This career service would help any one looking for a job in Australia. It is directed at providing career management services for those looking for jobs but, not finding them.

B Guide--Careers and Networking. B Guide Page is set up specifically for women and helps with job searches. It also gives advice on arts, fashion, women and the net. The links are complicated though, and there really is no depth to any of the topics. Good to browse, but would not want to consider it for a good career service.

Business job Finder.This page contains information on available jobs, possible internships, and useful resources. Fischer College of Business at Ohio State University updates the page daily with ne w job opportunities. Lists of job openings and career resources number in the thousands . Links are provided to other sites for additional jobs and resources. This page can answer just about any question concerning the business world.

CanWorksNet. CanWorksNet is career database designed to advance Canadians into the workforce. This bilingual homepage provides a wealth of information and services for job seekers in Canada but does not provide mu ch usefulness for summer internships.

Career FAQ with Incredible Answers. This page allows you to find links to the job that you want. If you have questions you can send them email and they will answer it on the next business day. The graphics on this page a re very appealing and eye catching. There is also a link to a resume writing page.

Career Network. Career Network posts jobs available in various business fields. This website is user-friendly and provides access to locations and positions for all jobs posted, along with a special page designated to helping the browser create his own resume. This pages' wide range of information makes it useful for anyone looking for a job.

CareerPath.com. The Career Path.com Home Page prides itself in being the "most visited job-related site on the Internet." Updated daily by national newspapers, CareerPath.com posts more than 250,000 "Help Wanted" jobs on the Internet each month. The site is useful in that it reduces the financial burden of buying newspapers and provides an organized listing of jobs by subject.

Career Web best jobs on the Internet.This page lists job positions, internships, and resources for additional information about job descriptions. Resumes can be submitted online for company recruiters to view and evaluat e. Career Web provides six easy steps to finding a job that meets ones interests.

Directory of Overseas Jobs. Overseas jobs may be hard to come across, but this page can help find jobs and how to get them. The page offers opportunities from accounting and banking to radio and t elevision broadcasting.

Engineering Careers. Lists all possible job positions available in Engineering. A great page for people involved in Engineering who are looking for a career that matches their interests. A user -friendly page.

Hiretech. This contains information about jobs in engineering and the computer industry. It is very easy to use and to manipulate. It tells about the program, identifies people to contact, and describes th e jobs.

Minority Career Network. This is a great link for minorities. This page has it all. Links to opportunities, net assets, and minority careers. This page runs super fast and has superb graphics. It is a lso very easy to use due to the number of links.

The Internets Online Center.This page is similar to Job Web. Jobs are listed along with a resume/company match option. Recruiters search through resumes and contact individuals for possible interviews. Links to numerous c ompanies are available to find out background information.

Job Center. The Job Center homepage allows people to find jobs over the internet. It also has icons to push if the user wants to know the cost or how to join. The page allows users to search for probable employee s by listed resumes since Job Center allows the posting of resumes. The page is very basic and not much help.

1996 Job Guide. The 1996 Job Guide is an excellent resource for people looking for information in all areas of the career. It contains an extensive index of job titles and requirements.

Job Openings and Research Opportunities at Argonne. The Job Openings site includes three main listings that involve job openings, student research appointments, and joint research opportunities. This well r ounded page contains a sufficient amount of information for looking for employment placement and in depth job requirements. With the additional links anyone looking for weekly job announcements for any career field will be satisfied by the direct access p rovided.

Job Seeker Resource Center. The Job Seeker Resource Center is the ultimate site for students seeking employment in North Carolina (www.webcom.com offers a geographical specification option). One c an easily search various databases containing thousands of employment opportunities located in the Tarheel state. The page is accessible in that each link is properly labeled and little insignificant information is present.

Jobtrack. This is another career service and lists sources of jobs whether they are, full time, part-time, temporary, or internships or college and graduate students. It provides very simple instructions is very use ful. It also allows the use of e-mail if there are any questions you want to direct towards the people who provide this program.

JobWeb National Association of Colleges and Employers. This page contains career planning resources, job listings, job search information, and quest match. This page allows resumes to be saved for employers to access a nd review. Quest match is a useful service since it can pair a resume with a job position.

LSU Career Services. Even though this homepage is only a listing of career services sites, it gives informative links. This page lists the best 100 companies to wo rk for and the top ten career service sites, along with other frequented sites. It provides a fast link to many services found through the Internet.

The Monster Board's Career Surfari-Jobs and Employment. Great source for finding a job, any job. The page has a database according to location, discipline, company, and job title, including 14 other sites you can conn ect to. This is definitely a must see.

Pacific Rim Medical Employment. This page provides information on all types of medical employment opportunities in the Pacific Rim. A very vague and uninteresting page that is not likely to catch anyone's att ention and does not have specific information on positions and salarys.

Research Triangle Institute. The Research Triangle has a growing job market and this page covers it all. Provides full descriptions of jobs including salary, workplace options, and positions. An excellent page for all pe ople, and especially those from UNC.

Salary Guides. This page provides detailed information for anyone interested in pursuing an Accounting, Engineering, or Computers career. Provides salarys, positions, and career planning information an d will be very useful to a person seeking long-term employment.

The Stanford Job Resource. This job resource site offers the chance for graduates and companies to meet each other's needs. The location allows grads to place resumes online, which are then accessible to compani es searching for qualified workers. At the same time, the site offers students the chance to investigate companies who express an interest in their skills. This site was fairly accessible and uncomplicated. It would be very helpful to college graduates ou t looking for employment.


Company Employment Pages

Aerotek. This page tells that this company is a contract service that temporary finds jobs for engineers and other technical workers. This company is among the top job finding agencies in the US. It only hires the "best, brightest, and most talented." This site would be most interesting to those interested in technical jobs.

America Online Career Homepage. This page gives an overview of the company and the variety of job openings. It has an intelligent search engine that lets you search by location, classification, or keywor d. Although the page is very helpful in that it gives specific information about the job's qualifications and responsibilities, it relies too much on clicking the mouse.

American Airlines: Preparing Your Resume. American Airlines does the best job advising resume content for applicants by including a detailed process for formatting a "scaleable resume". They suggest how to writ e the resume providing tips such as the types of words to include. After reading this page, an applicant has a better chance of getting their resume read.

American Computer Solutions. This company homepage explains its effort in finding solutions to business problems through computer programs. It states the many various positions that the company provides. You can learn everything you want to know about this company through the included files. This homepage also includes instant access to order their application.

Apple Employment Information and Opportunities. The Apple Corporation homepage lists job openings at the company. The areas with job openings range form coporate offices to software production. This page will benefit the user looking for a job in the computer field.

AT&T Employment Offerings. The AT&T web page is a comprehensive work of the offerings of AT&T. This page provides useful information in answering questions one may have when inquiring about a job with AT&T. This infor mation helps the job hunter decide if this is the type of job he or she is looking for. Insight about the company's history and staff are also described in this page.

AT&T Home Page. AT&T's exciting homepage gives interested people information about job opportunities available. This site offers lists to help users find job openings in practically all positions along with a special link offered for the college graduate.

AT&T University Relations. After graduation, many students plan to join a major corporation in hopes of receiving a grant to attend graduate school. The AT&T University Relations page emphasizes the compa ny's dedication to helping employees achieve their highest potential, including generous tuition grants. The page also serves as an excellent overview of a large phone company's employee expectations.

Avtec Systems. This page is a simple one stating that the company offers several job opportunities. These opportunities are followed by the requirements that should be obtained if one wanted to inquire furthe r. It ends by including all of the available job openings that the company has.
