Announcements!

12/1/99

Our meeting during final exams week will be Wednesday, 12/15 from 4-6:30 p.m. in Student Union 210. During this time, we will complete course evaluations and letters to future students, plus perform the three final debates. Pastries will be provided; feel free to bring other refreshments.

FYI: Lynne will be out of town 12/3-12/14. I will read email a couple of times during that period, but will not be able to respond as promptly as usual.

11/15/99

Debate Evaluation Guidelines are available on-line! Please review these in preparation for your debate.

11/4/99

Now is the time to research your debate topic and position! Try to find a variety of evidence (as outlined in Rieke & Sillars) to support your position--so that you are ready for anything when you debate.

10/27/99

The debate assignment is available on-line. You will let me know your group's topic by Monday, 11/1 and will bring your group's proposition and positions to me on Wednesday, 11/3. Note: You will have a few minutes in class on Wednesday to finalize your topic and proposition before submitting them to me.

Reading for next week: Rieke & Sillars (pp. 123-128 in course-pak) and your choice of either:

Puddington and Williams (2 1 page articles)

OR

Easterbrook, "The Guns of Littleton", and Bowman

10/20/99

Everyone in Group 3 and Group 4 will complete a self-evaluation of their Group Presentation. This short writing assignment is due next Wednesday in class. Please note: in order to complete this assignment, you will need to review the tape of your group's presentation. This will be available on reserve at the UG library (by Thursday, 10/21/99).

Everyone: Back to reading! Bring in a short (max 1 page) written summary of your perspective on why Michael Dyson should or should not have given his speech as a commencement address.

10/13/99

Everyone in Group 1 and Group II will complete a self-evaluation of their Group Presentation. This short writing assignment is due next Wednesday in class. Please note: in order to complete this assignment, you will need to review the tape of your group's presentation. This will be available on reserve at the UG library (most likely by Thursday, 10/14/99, so you will be able to review them after returning from fall break).

9/28/99

Due to illness, class is cancelled on 9/29. I highly encourage you to take advantage of this time for a group meeting to assess your presentation progress. Group Presentations will be post-poned one week; check out the week-by-week guide for more details about homework due next week and the new schedule.
