Lesbian poet Nancy Boutilier will read at Internationalist Books in Chapel
Hill on Wednesday, July 19th, at 7 pm, and at Quail Ridge Books on Friday,
July 21 at 7:30 pm.
She will be reading from and discussing her her poetry collection, "On the
Eighth Day Adam Slept Alone." Containing calmly powerful love poetry, the new
volume relates science, nature, philosophy, and mythology to the human
experiences of love, loss, and loyalty.
Her first book of poems, According to Her Contours, was a finalist in the
Lambda Literary Awards. Booklist praised it as "an exciting exploration of
relationships, gender identity, and the politics of clothes from a woman who
chose high tops over high heels and has the courage to love her family and
her lesbianism."
Nancy, once called "the suburban tomboy poet," graduated from Harvard in 1984
and earned her M. A. in English from Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School.
She has written for a wide range of publications, including OUT/LOOK, Sphere,
Curve, GirlJock, and Girlfriends magazines.
