Scholarship Information

UNC-CH High School Summer Music Camp

July 27-August 2, 2008

Thank you for requesting information on scholarships to the UNC-CH High School Summer Music Camp.  We believe that this event can be a defining experience in your life and congratulate you for your wisdom in seeking such opportunities.

There are a limited number of partial scholarships available to support the participation of students in the High School Summer Music Camp.  Scholarships are awarded in the form of a partial waiver of fees for commuters or residents, and are designed to cover approximately 25 - 30% of the total cost in either category.  Monies for these scholarships, however, are dependent on the largesse of internal and external sources and the amount of funds available varies each year.  For this reason, although we do our best to honor all requests, the Camp is rarely able to exceed the 30% funding policy, and on occasion has been pressed to meet the 25% level.  Scholarships are awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Students who need or want a scholarship are encouraged to aggressively seek support in their community early in the Spring, through civic organizations, churches, school booster groups or arts patrons, in addition to applying for a Camp scholarship.

Following are the guidelines for camp scholarships:

The initial deposit must be paid (according to deadlines and policies on registration form) in order to qualify for a scholarship.

Auditions must be submitted by tape no later than June 20, 2008.  Tapes or CD's should be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a teacher who can speak to your talent, work ethic, perseverance and need.  Sorry, it is not possible for tapes or CD's to be returned.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30, 2008.

Final balance (less the scholarship amount) is due by July 4, 2008.

If you have additional questions, or feel that your circumstances are unusual, please feel free to call Daniel Huff, Camp Director, at (919) 962-1039, or email dhuff@email.unc.edu.

We look forward to seeing you in Chapel Hill in July!
