Hello! You have reached the home page of Dorothy Carr Porter, Program Coordinator of the collaboratory for Research in Computing for Humanities (RCH) at the University of Kentucky. I have degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (MS in Library Science), Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI (MA in Medieval Studies) and Saint Olaf College, Northfield, MN (BA in Medieval Studies and Music). I was born and raised in Blacksburg, VA, where my parents are both employed by Virginia Tech. This web page serves as an introduction to me and my experience.

During my time as a Master's candidate in the Medieval Institute at Western Michigan University, I had the distinct pleasure of working for two years as a graduate assistant in the Rare Books Room (RBR) in Waldo Library. In August of 2000 I moved from the RBR to a position in the library of the Richard Rawlinson Center in the Medieval Institute.

After moving to Chapel Hill in August of 2001, I worked in the library at the University Career Services and the Manuscripts Department of Wilson Library. Courses taken at SILS include:

  • INLS 144 - Cultural Institutions
  • INLS 145 - Introduction to Archives and Record Management
  • INLS 181 - Internet Applications
  • INLS 210-046 - Cultural Resources: Digital Preservation & Access
  • INLS 210-112 - Archival Approaches to Content Management
  • INLS 245 - Advanced Issues & Practices in Archives & Records Management
  • INLS 254 - Preservation of Library and Archive Materials
  • INLS 349 - Seminar in Rare Book Collections

Please feel free to email me with any questions about me, my interests, or the world in general. I am a librarian, after all!
