Pennsylvania Vacation Poem 2002

Do we write a poem or do we not?

We're kind of tired of it, but we'll give it a shot.

This year we promise to make our poem short,

Hopefully that will be the case, but there's so much to report.

The battle that saved Washington, July 9th, 1864

The view was pretty, bet we wanted more.

We've been real lazy, we've been real bad,

It's now day six, and that's just sad

We'll try to recap the last 5 days

We've been real busy - it's all a big haze.

Friday we stopped in Pittsburgh, near Kennywood park,

Saturday we finished all the rides, before it was dark.

Four dollars for parking, 'cause the chairlift was closed,

We walked under a highway, for our picture we posed.

The rides were closed, not open yet,

We were first on the logs - yep, we got wet.

We looked for Kenny, but he wasn't there,

The Jackrabbit was great, like riding a hare.

The Racer was 2 trains on a continuous loop,

Suzanne was confused, and needed to recoup.

They had some old rides, like Turtle and Kangaroo,

On Noah's Ark, our stomach's said "ooooo"

Exterminator was a wild mouse, that took place in the dark,

Steel Phantom had fast bunny hops, and rose above most of the park.

Thunderbolt was a woodie, and a pretty good ride,

Unless you were the person stuck on the outside.

Day 3 we were busy, busy as bees,

We're not going to one park, we're going to three.

First to Idlewild, we didn't know what to expect,

But after a few hours, it gained our respect.

They had an old coaster - only 900 feet long,

We visited Mr. Roger's and attended a Hug-n-Song.

The Wild Mouse was great, zooming through the trees,

Now in the sick house, can we get out please?

We would have stayed longer, in this fun woodsy place,

But we had a strict schedule, no time could we waste.

Next we went to Lakemont, look at all the concrete.

There were just a few rides, and nothing to eat.

We rode the Skyliner coaster, beside a baseball game,

But Leap-the-dips was the best, it's their claim to fame.

It's the world's oldest coaster, built in 1902,

It looked quite rickety but was so smooth it felt new.

With planks for a floor and two boards on the sides,

The track was quite different than any new rides.

The Wild Mouse was wrong, not one to recommend,

Too many scary noises, please make it to the end.

Toboggan was a tower where cars spiral down outside,

Josh rode alone cause Suzanne could not ride.

Lakemont did not take as long as we thought,

We're kind of upset - day passes we bought.

We're off to Del Grosso's - the last park of the day,

We rode the Carousel, and the coaster - hip hip hurray!

We're tied and hungry and in need of some rest,

A three hour traffic jam, put our patience to the test.

We finally made it to the Pine Barn Inn,

The hotel was great, we give it a "10!"

We're now at Knoebel's, it's now Day 4,

Out bodies are ready, but our feet say, "no more!"

We headed for Twister, the newest coaster they had,

The cost was $2, which wasn't so bad.

We went on to Phoenix, Suzanne's favorite coaster there,

We loved all the humps and the wind in our  hair.

We saw several Amish - Are coaster's a sin?

The temptation was too great, they all gave in!

The Whirlwind was rough and in need of repair,

We rode a kiddie coaster, they didn't seem to care.

The Haunted Mansion was scary, it brought us to our knees,

Suzanne took Josh's hand, and began to squeeze.

Josh rode in a rocket, it twisted and twirled,

Suzanne didn't ride, 'cause she would have hurled.

"Let's ride the Carousel" Suzanne seemed to sing,

A free ride would be ours, if we got the brass ring.

We're done with Knoebel's it's on to Hersheypark,

A chocolate factory awaits us, if we get there before dark.

We saw a cheesy 3D movie that we thought was just dandy,

We rode through the factory, and got some free candy!

It was hot the next day, when we arrived at the park,

We got soaking wet, let the chafing start!

We rode the Giant Wheel, Josh's childhood dream,

"Don't you spin us" Suzanne had to scream.

We rode the Wild Mouse and also Wildcat,

Which was a great woodie, no where was it flat.

We rode Lightning and raced with Thunder,

Great Bear was closed, will it open, we wonder?

Out really hot day came to a close,

When we rode Roller Soaker, and got sprayed with a hose.

We rode yet another woodie, and SooperDooperLooper,

On the Sky Ride we were Hangin' like Mr. Cooper.

The Great Bear finally opened, we got in one ride,

Before it closed down while a storm passed by.

The Mine Train was small, our legs do not fit,

Kissing Tower had warnings, "In the windows, do not sit."

Dorney tomorrow, we'll try to rest,

It's owned by Cedar Fair, those guys are the best!

Who are these people, with the red shirts?

Quickly to Talon, we wanna ride first!

Talon's our new favorite inverted coaster by far,

Josh likes his feet to dangle under the car.

Their woodies were rough, and that's just sad,

Hercules and Rolling Thunder, BAD, BAD, BAD.

"Is this an adult ride?" the cute little girl asked Suzanne,

Soon the little girl fell into Suzanne's evil Laser plan.

Steel Force was our favorite Hyper this trip,

We love going fast over hills and dips.

We finished the coaster, it's now time to rest,

"Off to the wavepool" we said with some zest.

We splashed in the wavepool and rode the lazy river,

Under the waterfalls, man we did shiver.

"Oh crap, where's the key?"

From the river rapid line we did flee...

Thank goodness we found it without any trouble,

We ran to the wavepool, and played in the bubbles.

We found us two chairs, and laid down to rest,

There was no snoring - Suzanne's sleep was the best.

Driving to Jersey, we're looking for Six Flags,

We need a bed, and a place for our bags.

We looked for a hotel, there's not one in sight,

We looked and looked, it's now past Midnight!

On into the morning, it's now one o'clock,

We finally found a room - the last one on the block.

Now to the 8th park in 6 days, our minds are a mess,

Hope Six Flags is worth it, cause we're tired, we confess.

The day started slow, but then came Nitro,

A really awesome coaster, our face's aglow...

Steel Force, you can forget it, you've now been replaced,

Nitro is the greatest, it's now in first place.

We didn't ride Batman, or Batman and Robin,

We did ride Skull Mountain, our heads are a-throbbin'.

We rode a family coaster, a carousel on a chicken,

We ate butterfly fries, our fingers we were lickin'

We waited for Medusa, by far the longest wait,

We flipped over 6 times, man it was great!

What's up with Viper, ouch our necks,

And that wooden coaster, what the heck?

Great American Scream Machine was awesome in its time,

Seven loops are too many, we can't make a rhyme.

The log ride was great, as most log rides are,

On Dino Island - Suzanne's new friend in the next car.

We rode Nitro while the sunset, a perfect end to our day,

Now we must  find another hotel at which we can stay.

We got up early and drove into Philly,

We're looking for "The Black Cat" the directions are a dilly.

We ate at the White Dog, and shopped the Black Cat,

Our food was real tasty and that was that.

We're now leaving Philly, we're looking for crabs,

We found us a crabhouse, and ate us some crabs,

The Chesapeake Crab house, crab cakes, and crab soup,

Crab Imperial, and steamed crab, leave off the crab goop.

Way far away from the interstate, we've got to get back,

We're heading for DC to hit the sack.

We met up with Hunter,  he'll give us a tour,

Where are we headed, we're not really sure.

We're heading in circles, or so it seems,

He said 30 minutes, and that's what he means.

Look at the Battlefield, look from afar,

See what you can from within your car.

Finally at Ikea, and Josh goes crazy,

He bought some lights and boy is he crazy!

Those last two rhymes were Suzanne's, she's hit silly mode,

Laughing like a hyena true silliness she has showed.

We're really tied of writing this really long poem,

We're home, we're done, hope you've enjoyed our poem!
