I began working
in this medium in 1999 as a high school senior in Greenville, SC.
To create these
works, I first compile a collection of pictures and images found
in contemporary print media. Next, I study the collection of pictures
and think of various combinations that yield a new image that is
distinct and entirely independent of the original elements.
Using scissors,
Exacto knives, and a glue stick, I physically combine the various
pieces of the collage and create the original - . Once the original
is completed, I enlarge them in color at the local Kinko's. This
process enlarges an image to as much as 11" by 17", making
them perfect for wall decorations.
I have always
produced this art independently for personal reasons. I still continue
to pursue this hobby now, and anyone interested may email me (dtownes@email.unc.edu)
to request a print of any piece.
