Feynman to announce running mate this week
Durham, N.C.Feynman will announce her selection of running mate later this week, according to sources close to the candidate.
Feynman has spent the last two weeks at her home in Durham, going over profiles of potential candidates with her campaign staff. She told reporters last Friday that she would announce her selection in advance of the Slumber Party convention next week, but refused to be more specific.
David Walbert, Feynman's campaign manager, said he could "neither confirm nor deny" rumors that Feynman is considering selecting a Feline American for nomination to the nation's second-highest office. The rumors began when Grady, a Himalayan who has been working with the campaign, changed his voting registration from North Carolina back to Tennessee, where he maintains a home. The switch would avoid a Constitutional provision preventing the election of a President and Vice President from the same state.
"There are a number of factors to consider," Walbert said, "one of which is the need to broaden our appeal to various demographic groups. But above all we want someone who brings experience and dignity to the ticket.
"Certainly Mr. Grady would make an excellent Vice President. His qualifications are impeccable. But that's for Feynman to decide, and she hasn't made her decision yet."
Koko the Gorilla, long rumored to be a potential Vice Presidential pick, announced last week that she was not interested in the position
Feynman's selction for vice president will be confirmed by the Slumber Party membership at its convention, to be held in Milwaulkee, Wisconsin, next Monday-Thursday, August 7-10.
Meanwhile, work continued on the Slumber Party platform, which will be officially adopted at the convention next week. The Platform Committee is working "around the clock," according to one member, to put the finishing touches on the document.
