I am a May 2010 graduate of the Economics Ph.D. program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at UNC, my fields of specialization included Health
Economics, Labor Economics and Applied Econometrics. I will continue along this line of research with Mathematica Policy Research starting in August 2010.
My dissertation research focused on the impact of disability on employment
outcomes. Specifically, I explored the direct and indirect effects of disability
on employment transitions (e.g. changing occupations and employer) and the effect of
disability on wages via tenure. I also analyzed the relationship between
occupational selection, job characteristics, and wages for disabled workers.
At UNC, I taught six independent sections of Labor Economics and spent two semesters as a TA for Introduction to Economics. I also served as a research
assistant to Dr. Paul Rhode. Through out my time at Carolina I was very active in the department. This involvement took many shapes, most notably my role as President of
the Economics Graduate Student Association.
