Teaching Experience and Training
|
My first teaching experience at UNC was as a teaching assistant for Introduction to
Economics (Econ 101) during the 2005/2006 academic year. In Spring 2006 I was awarded the Vijay Bhagavan Award for Best Principles Teaching Assistant based on student
nominations and the Ralph Byrns Teaching Award for high student performance for my role as an Econ101 teaching assistant. In the summer of 2006 I began teaching my own
indepent section and I have now taught two independent sections of Labor Economics for economics
majors (Econ 480), and four independent sections of Labor Economics for non-majors (Econ 380).
The course website for Econ 380 providing a course syllabus, homework assignments and exams can be
viewed here.
I completed the Teacher Training Program at UNC during the 2006-2007 school year.
The program is a two semester graduate course in which graduate students are advised on teaching methods by current faculty. Specific topics covered during the course
include writing syllabi, planning lectures, incorporating active learning in the classroom, and writing exams. Course participants are also videotaped while lecturing and
provided with individualized feedback on teaching performance.
