      State & National Editor, The  Daily Tar Heel. August 2002 – Current

§   Oversee state and national news coverage for the UNC-Chapel Hill daily newspaper with a circulation of 39,000

§   Supervise a staff of 30 writers, editing articles, determining news coverage, and performing management duties

§   Direct daily and enterprising coverage of all levels of the state government, major events in the UNC system, trends and significant events in higher education, and all major events in North Carolina and the nation

§   Write difficult lead-front stories, complex issue pieces, and breaking news articles

§   Act as the N.C. General Assembly beat reporter filing daily from Raleigh, N.C. when lawmakers tackle major legislation or address issues pertinent to the UNC system

§   Coordinated a 12 person team of reporters and photographers covering the 2002 North Carolina primaries

 

      Editorial Intern, Texas Monthly Magazine. May 2002 – August 2002

§   Performed extensive research and transcribed interviews for articles appearing in the July, August and September issues of the magazine

§   Compiled, formatted and fact-checked information for the “Around the State” event guide and the statewide “Restaurant Guide” for the July, August and September issues

§   Wrote restaurant reviews for the “Restaurant” Guide section of the October issue

§   Updated and organized the magazine’s media contact database

 

      Assistant State & National Editor, The Daily Tar Heel. January 2002 – May 2002

§   Worked with a staff of 25 writers, editing articles and influencing news coverage

§   Helped direct daily coverage of state and national news
