Here's some more data I have found on the McLaurins. My son went to
Mississippi to look into the old McIntyre homestead in Brandon. Attached
are names of McLaurins buried in the Brandon cemetery. There seems to be
several misspellings, I typed them exactly like they were listed.
Also I found that the "Fairview Rifles" mentioned in the letter was later
changed to the "Claiborne Rifles". They marched to Virginia around the
middle of May 1861, where they became "G" company of the 16th Mississippi
Regiment. With this regiment it served under Stonewall Jackson in the
celebrated Valley Campaign and was the only Regiment [sic] in Jackson's
Army. In July 1862, they were assigned to Featherston's Brigade, completing
that Regiment along with 2nd Battalion, 12th, 16th, and 19th regiments and
with the brigade took part in all the battles in Virginia by General R.E.
Lee to the end at Appomattox, April 10, 1865.
Hope this of some use. I will send more as I have time to research.
