Trip 4--June 26, 2003

Highest Point in Virginia

Mt. Rogers

5729 feet (1749 meters) above sea level

Traveling Companions: Andy Keller, Tanya Gillespie, and Michelle Nixon
Vehicle: Andy's 1999 Toyota Corolla

Andy points to the USGS marker at the top of Mt. Rogers. It's nice to see a guy enjoying a zenith so much. It was actually his idea to go on this trip, and so without him, my streak may never have gone past three months, small enough that I probably would have never even noticed it. It's about an eight mile round-trip hike with about six miles being on the Appalachian Trail.

This picture was not taken from the summit as the dense, mossy forest doesn't allow much of a view. The trail however is mostly wide open, through fields of tall grass and shrubs that are maintained by grazing wild ponies.
