Destiny is a community of
real-life friends from around the world. Its design and composition
have
changed — and continue to change — since it’s start two years ago, but
the goal
remains the same. The base members are four Swedish college students
studying
at Lunds Universitet. The “leader” of the group, Andre, is a very
sociable
computer science major who was in search of an easy way to stay
connected to
the people he meets and befriends everywhere he goes. Andre is what
some would
call a professional student. He now is in his fifth year at the
university, but
has yet to complete three years of courses. While that is not a
reflection of
his intelligence, (he is probably one of the most intelligent people I
know) it
is a reflection of his refusal to grow up. As a result, he is the first
to
throw a party and convince his friends to come over for an after party
when the
bars close. Funny pictures inevitably surface after a party at Andre’s.
So a
key part to the community he wanted to build was a space for party
pictures to
be shared. The expression, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” is
reversed
in reference to his site so he then needed a place to make comments
about the
pictures and the party in general. By combining his needs, he created
Destiny.se.
