Hi and welcome to my home page. I am a graduating senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. On May 20, 2001, I will graduate with a BA in journalism and a minor in business. When I am not in school, I enjoy volunteering, going uptown with my friends, and traveling.
In
the fall of 1999 I went on a Burch
Field Research Seminar to Cape Town, South Africa. During the three and
a half months I was there, I took lots of pictures, some of which you can see
in my picture section, including scenes from Namibia and Zimbabwe. I also held
an internship with the Parliamentary Monitoring Group, a non-governmental organization.
Based on that experience, I decided to focus my research page (on this web site)
on censorship in South Africa, comparing 1980-2000.
Below are also some of my favorite web sites. Enjoy. Please direct any feedback on this site to erinn@email.unc.edu.

Google is a privately owned
search engine. Since Google's founding in 1998, it has won numerous awards
such as; the TIME Magazine - Top Ten Best Cybertech of 1999 (December
20, 1999), Wall Street Executive Library - Best of the Net (January 2000),
PC World - "Best Bet" Search Engine (September 2000), and Forbes - Best
of the Web (September 2000). Its' my favorite search engine.

| The Cable News Network was started in 1980 by Turner Broadcasting, which owned it until 1995, when CNN was sold to the Times Mirror Corporation. CNN launched its web site in 1996 and has been operating online ever since. I like this site because it provides fast accurate news which is updated as news stories break. | |
| The Daily Mail and Guardian was the first online newspaper in Africa as a service to readers abroad. It was owned by the Mail and Guardian but is now a separate company. The M&G has traditionally been known for its focus on investigative reporting and political analysis for serious readers. I like this site because I like to keep up with politics in Africa. | |
| AdCritic.com is a site all about advertisements and was started in 1999. It describes itself as the premier screening agency for television commercial and uses broadband video to show its clips. This is one of the ten most trafficked broadband web sites in the world, and no wonder since you can use it to watch the Super Bowl commercials without having to sit through the football! | |
| Although Emode's mission is to become the largest e-mail newsletter in the world, you do not have to subscribe to enjoy this site. On Emode, you can take tests to find out more about yourself or your friends. Examples include; "What breed of dog are you?" "Do you have a balanced Lifestyle?" and "the Passion Predictor." These tests are great for a boring evening at home or a large gathering with friends. |
