A few short hours after landing in Rome, we headed off to see St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
To best communicate to all languages, the Vatican displays this sign letting us know that it's not ok to wear 1920s bathing costumes within the church. Instead we all wore unitards.
Swiss guards are on duty to protect the Pope and citizens of the Vatican.
Fabulous angels flying over one of the entry archways.
A view of the awesomeness of the Basilica from the back.
The Pieta. It's right inside the front door, so you walk in and you're overwhelmed by the space and then you look over and there's the Pieta. I studied this in high school. Pretty mind blowing.
The main dome with heavenly light streaming in.
The altar. In the back, you can see a blown out circle of light. That's an amber window. When the light is just right, it streams in a golden color.
