Spring Break 2003: New York

Over the first long weekend of Spring Break, I went to New York with my friend Shawn who I know from Undergrad at Augustana College. We mainly just walked the streets, shopped, ate and hung out in the city.

A very cool little bookstore on the Upper West side near where we stayed. I think it was called Ivy's. The left side was all this amazing fiction and the right side was a mystery bookstore called Murder Ink.

H&H Bagels at 80th and Broadway. A particularly empty moment for a very busy bagelry.

Times Square.

The ferris wheel in Toys 'R' Us in Times Square.

Walking through Bryant Square towards the back of the New York Public Library.

The real New York Public Library across the street from the one above. This is the library that citizens of New York seem to actually use. The other one is for research.

A track in Grand Central Station.

Grand Central Station.

The Ricola man, strangely hanging out in Grand Central Station as part of a Swiss Tourist Bureau exhibition.

Standing in line for coffee at Dean and Deluca in SoHo.

Kate's Paperie in SoHo.
I covet all this paper.

Look at the cool ceiling.
All made from paper.

Shawn in front of Jonathan Adler's store in SoHo. Shawn had given me one of his vases for my birthday this year. I particularly like his bio on his web page.

Shawn and I drinking martinis in the W Hotel bar.

Me sitting in the dining area of Grand Central Station.

We saw the Matisse Picasso exhibit at the temporary MoMA in Queens.

As you can see, the museum was a little off the beaten track.

This was an amazing video exhibit projected on the walls of the museum. The people were staring at their hands. It took a few moments of watching to realize that it was video and not photography.

Shawn and I at the end of our visit in front of one of the ubiquitous little bodegas.
