Frank E. Fee Jr. has been the Knight professor of editing in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University since September 1997.

Fee has been a journalist in daily newspapers for more than 30 years, most recently with Gannett Rochester (NY) Newspapers (1976 to 1995), where he was a copy desk chief for 15 years. He has worked in virtually every newsroom reporting assignment, and as a photojournalist, and has been a suburban editor, city editor and news editor. He was editor of The Post-Journal in Jamestown, NY, from 1972 to 1976. In 1967-69, Fee was an Army information specialist, and spent a year in Vietnam as an Army combat correspondent and editor on several Army publications.

In addition to his newspaper work, Fee taught journalism part time at the college level for more than 10 years, including the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, Roberts Wesleyan College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also has been active in continuing-education programs for journalists and has conducted workshops at a number of newspapers throughout the United States.

Early in 1995, Fee was selected to be one of the first Freedom Forum Ph.D. Fellows at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This unique program was created to draw highly qualified professional journalists into the classroom by enabling them to complete accelerated doctoral studies at theSchool of Journalism and Mass Communication. He also holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree from State University of New York at Brockport.

Fee's research interests include the application of media theory to daily newspaper work, including newsroom management and organizational communication issues, and the public journalism movement. At Carolina, he wrote eight refereed papers accepted for presentation at journalism education conferences.
