Over the past few years, Brad and I have acquired quite a few animals. It
started out with two cats, Saleen and Willow. We weren't planning
on getting any animals, but one day we found a "stray" cat. We put
up flyers, and after about a week with no response, we decided to keep the
cat. We named him Mendel. Mendel, however, turned out to be a
girl cat that belonged to our upstairs neighbor. When we had to give
him/her back, we decided it was time to get a cat of our own. |

So, we went to the Orange
County Animal Shelter to pick out a cat. I had fallen in love
with Saleen from his picture online. I knew I wanted a big fat orange
cat. We decided to get him a playmate, and we chose the cat that would
let us hold it the longest. That turned out to be Willow. Willow
didn't like Saleen very much at first, but now they've become friends. Saleen is a "BFSC" for Big Fat Stupid Cat. He thinks he rules the house. Willow is smarter than Saleen, but she doesn't like being held now that she has a home. She will lay on you, but if you hold her she makes these strange breathing sounds. The pictures to the left are from the first week we had the cats. You can see Saleen is just a skinny guy and Willow has her tummy shaved! |

Dingo is definately the dominant guinea pig. She makes
the "brrrrrr" noises that a male normally makes. However, Zoot is
the more adventerous guinea pig. She tries new things first. That
may be because Dingo bites her until she does, but... To visit Zoot and Dingo's page, click here. Their page includes pictures of them and cage design. |

A few months after getting the guinea pigs, I started volunteering at the
Orange County APS. I fell in love with Sabrina, a Weimeraner/Pit mix
with a troubled past. She originally came into the shelter as a stray.
She was adopted out, but her owner kept her crated for at least eight
hours during her first job. Then, her owner came home for about a
half an hour to walk Sabrina and eat dinner. She left Sabrina out
of the crate for the next four or more |
| hours
while at her second job. No wonder Sabrina tore up the house! So, Sabrina came back
to the shelter with "destructive behavior" written on her adoption card.
Brad and I took Sabrina home, and worked very hard with her on her
seperation anxiety. She is doing much better now, and is much calmer
and happier. In fact, we think she is over her separation anxiety completely
(knock on wood!) To visit Sabrina's page, click here. |
