For JOMC 50 we were assigned an Internet research project. We were to choose a topic of interest to us that could possibly help us with a class project or served another useful purpose. I choose the history of NASCAR in North Carolina.

I wanted to look at North Carolina as a central location in the sport of auto racing and especially in the NASCAR series. Many racecar drivers are from North Carolina and many have their shops based in this state.

I was interested in finding out what made North Carolina such an attractive place for this sport, what caused the racing industry to take such a strong foothold in North Carolina and if racing started here or just evolved more quickly and completely in the Tarheel state
I was interested in this topic because I am hoping to obtain a job doing public relations in the auto racing industry. I felt answers to these questions would make me better prepared in my job search and interview process.

As for why other people might be interested, auto racing and NASCAR in particular have a large fan base in North Carolina who would be interested in the history of the sport in North Carolina. The media in this state give a lot of attention to this popular and rapidly expanding sport.
