Welcome the the Bennehan House. In 1787 Richard Bennehan bought the original 66 acres tract of land from Judith Stagg and built the original 1 1/2 story portion.  Judith Stagg, and here late husband, owned a very popular tavern known as Stagg's Tavern, which ran near the Old Indian Trading Path.  Since this was already a popular location that everyone knew about, Richard Bennehan decided to keep the Stagg name.  Now when he told someone he lived at Stagville, they knew exactly where it was at.  Later, as profits grew from his store, he added an addition two rooms to the back of the original structure, and by 1799 he was able to complete is vision with the two-story portion that we see on the left.  To continue our tour, go through the original entrance to the house(by clicking the door on the right).
