Gerry Madrazo has been a science teacher, educational specialist, director of instruction, assistant superintendent, clinical professor, speaker and author. He has taught Biology, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Oceanography and Marine Biology. Gerry was named "Teacher of the Year" by the student body of Graham High School, NC. He has presented at various institutes and teacher conferences across the nation and overseas. Gerry has served as Executive Director of the University of North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network and is a Clinical Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill.

As President of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), Gerry promoted "Science for all Cultures." He has been President of the North Carolina Science Teachers Association (NCSTA), and the North Carolina Science Leadership Association (NCSELA). He has served on the Board of Directors of BSCS, based in Colorado Springs. He has been Director-at-Large for the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT), which awarded him the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award. He also received the outstanding science Supervisor's Award from the National Science Education Leadership Association (NSELA), and the Distinguished Service to Science Education Award from NSTA and NCSTA; He is the recipient of a distinguished award from the Association of Multicultural Science Education. NSTA awarded Gerry its most prestigious award, the Carleton Award for Distinguished Leadership in the field of Science Education.

Gerry Madrazo grew up in the Philippines. He received an A.B. degree, cum laude, in Biology and General Science, with minors in English, Spanish and Education from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University; his Master's and Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction (science education), educational leadership/supervision from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has done graduate work in Botany at the University of Hawaii and at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Dr. Madrazo has a variety of publications to his credit. Among them are books - he authored or co-authored - Oceanography for Landlocked Classrooms; Prentice-Hall Biology and two editions of a Sourcebook for Science Supervisors. He is one of the writers of a book, Multiculturalism in Science, Mathematics and Technology and is a contributing author of an elementary science text series, Destinations in Science, and a middle school text program, Science Voyages.  He has co-edited two volumes of a botany monograph on Exciting Plant Science Activities for the Classroom.

Gerry's interests include photography, traveling, cooking, and nature walks.  He enjoys reading humor and nonfiction/science books, biographies, current events and documentaries.
