5 Links

These are probably the sites that I visit most often. Being an international student always means keeping in touch with your country, your family, your friends in order to be able to come back.

Belarusian Business Newspaper

BDG Online news service

Belorusskaya Delovaya Gazeta (Belarusian Business Newspaper), the newspaper I worked for before I came to study to Chapel Hill. The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal of Belarus (White Russia). Probably one of the few newspapers in the world with absolutely free online archives of its back issues. In Russian.

The two linked logos represent the newspaper itself and and the newspaper's online news service.

Russian "babies' little cradle" chat.

Krovatka.ru. One of the first and most popular chats in the Russian-language zone of the Internet. It became a mandatory rendezvous place for me and my friends back in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. You can translate its name as "a little bed," or even "a baby's little cradle." Krovatka [krah-VAHT-kah] has numerous chatrooms; personally, I prefer flirt.

You can check it out, since many young Russian-speakers do speak English and other languages.

One of the best online libraries, I ever encountered on the Internet, mostly in Russian, though with an enormous collection of English-language links (scroll down to English e-libraries). Plain design of the site, extraordinary amount of full-text fiction and non-fiction. Most Russian writers are eager to publish their works online and free just years or months after paper editions are out.

The library was started by now a legendary man, Maksim Moshkow in November 1994. It has 35 mirrors around Russia. No banners, no advertising; just free exchange of information. Since then, the guy has created many of the major internet news sites in Russia.

FT .com Financial Times

Financial Times. One of my favorite newspapers. Or should I write 'favourite'? Based in London and one of the few truly international newspapers, it has been aggressive on the U.S. market for the last few years.
It's amazing how easy it is to get addicted to something of such a quality.

Russian Observer.com

The Russian Issues.com

Internet-only, the Russian Observer is one of the best English-language news services in Russia. The Russian Issues translates articles from Russian newspapers across the board.

Both are the outlets of Strana.Ru.
