| The
rapid growth of the worlds population and an increasing demand for consumable
goods and services are depleting natural resources and placing stresses on our
quality of life and on the environment. The University must assist society in
meeting these challenges by educating future leaders, providing new knowledge
through research and scholarship, and informing and serving communities faced
with environmental challenges.
Through the Carolina Environmental
Program (CEP), faculty, students and staff at UNC-Chapel Hill have formed themselves
into a multidisciplinary community working to achieve these goals. The CEP is
the "public face" of an impressive array of environmental activities
on the Carolina campus. It brings to campus new and innovative environmental
programs, as well as coordinating and enriching world-class environmental programs
in the College of Arts and Sciences,
in Kenan-Flagler Business School,
School of Law, School
of Medicine, School of Public
Health, School of Government
and School of Journalism and Mass Communication
and in various Centers at the University, all in the service of promoting environmental
learning, research and outreach.
