Toolbar for Microworlds

This is a replica of the toolbar for MicroWorlds, together with a brief description of the function of each tool. Detailed instructions for the use of each tool can be found below the replica.

Getting New Turtles: Click on the baby turtle hatching out of the egg, and then click on the screen at the place where you want a new turtle. You can get as many new turtles as you wish.

Putting a Text Box on the Screen: Click on the icon with "a b c" on it, and then place the cursor on the spot where you want the upper left corner of the text box to be. Hold the clicker down and drag to where you want the lower right corner of the text box to be. Print commands will cause the text to appear in the text box.

Composing Music: Click on the double notes, and then click on the screen. A keyboard, on which you can compose music, will appear. As you compose you can test your composition by clicking on "play." You can edit your composition by using the delete key to delete notes. After you get your composition the way you want it, click on "OK" and an icon will appear on the screen. Click on the icon to play your composition.

Recording Your Voice: The fourth icon on the toolbar is a microphone. If you have a microphone on your computer you can record your voice or a sound. Click on the microphone icon, and then click on the screen. You will get a dialog box on which you can name the sound you are going to record. Next, click on the "Record" button and then record your message. You have a maximum of 20 seconds. When you finish recording, click on "Stop." Then click on "OK" and an icon will appear on the screen. Click on this icon to hear your recording.

Putting a Button on the Screen: Click on the fifth icon down, and then click on the screen. You will get a dialog box on which you can write in the LOGO commands that you want executed. Click on "Some Selected LOGO Commands" on "Hunter's Home Page" for more information on LOGO commands. You may also name the button on the dialog box. When you have finished writing your commands, click on "OK." When you click on the button that appears on the screen, your commands will be executed.

Putting a Slider on the Screen: Click on the sixth icon down, and then click on the screen. You will get a dialog box on which you can name the slider and set the minimum and maximum limits. Click on "OK" when you finish.

Putting a Video on the Screen: Click on the seventh icon down, and then click on the screen. You will get a dialog box on which you are asked to locate the movie you want to place on the MicroWorlds page. Next, you can name the video, and then click on "OK."

Recording Sound for a CD: Click on the single music note, and then click on the screen. You will get a dialog box on which you can name the sound. Next, choose the starting track by clicking on the buttons with two arrows and a vertical line to go up or down on the tracks. Next, if you are not going to start at the beginning of a track, click on the buttons with two arrows and no vertical line. When you get the place you want, click on the "Set Start" button. Go through the same procedure for ending your selection, and then click on "Set End." Then click on the play button, which is the one with the single arrow. Then click on "OK."
