Assignment 2: HyperStudio Project (Revised June 30)

The first multimedia program we will work on is HyperStudio since this software is useful at all grade levels and for all subjects. HyperStudio is used in many schools and is mentioned in the North Carolina Computer competencies.

Note: When you remove your disk from the computer, always do so by dragging the disk icon to the trash. If you use the eject disk command, a "ghost" of the icon is left on the screen, and the computer demands that you replace the disk before it will do anything else.

For help in HyperStudio, go to the Home Page and click on either HyperStudio Step-by-Step or on HyperStudio Tools.

June 30

Part I: Review of HyperStudio Introduction (15 minutes)

1. Several HyperStudio projects will be demonstrated.

2. Techniques for designing cards for the "HyperStudio Stack" will be demonstrated.

3. The use of tools will be demonstrated.

Part II: Development of a HyperStudio Project (45 minutes)

1. Either by yourself or with one or two others (your choice), pick a topic appropriate for the grade level or subject you teach, or appropriate to your field (e.g., Counseling, etc.)

2. Develop a HyperStudio stack relating to this topic. (Or, continue the one you started Friday.)

3. After you have done a very small amount of development, save your work. You must use "Save As" on the "File Menu" the first time you save a program. With the "Save As" command you will be prompted for a name for the program. Be sure you are saving to your floppy disk. If you are not sure about this, check with your friendly instructor.

4. Continue developing and polishing this project for the remainder of the 45-minute period.

5. Keep notes on difficulties, discoveries, surprises, and successes which you have while working on the project, and which you think might be helpful to others in the class.

6. Note: Each time you make a change, save your changed program to your disk. Otherwise, you may possibly lose some of your changes. Use the "Save" command every time after you save the first time using the "Save As" command. This will save the changed program in place of the previously saved program.

Part III: Your Demonstration to the Class (2 hours)

1. Demonstrate your HyperStudio stack for the class on the big screen projector. Include in your demonstration any comments you have relating to difficulties, discoveries, surprises, and successes which you think might be helpful to others in the class.

2. MicroWorlds will be introduced if time permits (See Assignment 3).
