the girls go camping, vol. 1

from left, carrie, tracy, anjni, and clara, in a cafe place at la feria in ovalle. we were waiting for the bus to hurtado, the second leg of our journey out to hacienda los andes, and with a couple hours to kill, it was defintely time for some empanadas y papas fritas. also helados, as the sign behind us suggests (helados are ice creams, hay means "there are").

we made it, despite the crazy bus ride. this is where we got dropped off on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. awesome.

walking down the path to the hacienda, with the trees blooming and mountains looming behind us. sorry, couldn't resist the cheesy rhyme.

the view from somewhere along the path. the scan isn't all that hot, but the real picture is quite nice, almost as nice as the real view was *grins*

ok so this river was cold. as in...andean meltwater cold. but hey, i was all sticky from the trip out there, and who knows when i'll next have a chance to jump in a river of andean meltwater? tracy gets credits for snapping this picture of my stupidity.

this is me in a giant green field...hard to believe we frolicked in this field for a few minutes, then walked past some trees and hopped a fence and were suddenly in the desert. again tracy's handy with the camera.

we went hiking right around sunset, and carrie snapped this picture. i love the way the sun is shining on the mountain there.

this is from the next day, when we--guess what--went hiking. we were out in the desert and then all of a sudden there was this little oasis type place. even though the water was slimy and the trees weren't palms, it was still cool. photo credits to tracy on this one.
