the adventures of helen (in chile)
back to the main page
welcome to the reason i started my blog. so, as you might know if you've found your way here, i spent fall 2004 living abroad in la serena, chile. yay. it was definitely a blast, and you should see to your right lots of links to lovely pictures that i took while i was there (in reverse chronological order), links to my blog archives from the relevant months (also in reverse chronological order), and a nice list of links to everyone else on the trip's page who still has their pictures up. sadly, i have just discovered that many people have apparently overtaxed their hosting space and taken down everything from south america. tragedy. thanks unc, for giving more space than myphotoalbums.com.

so yeah, the trip was to study astronomy, which, due to a number of very unfortunate (and continuing) delays with soar and prompt, didn't really happen to the extent it was supposed to. but we still did have astronomy class, and still did spend a lot of time hanging around top notch observatories. plus, the southern sky is AMAZING. yay magellanic clouds. the rest of the time...oh, hm, i guess we didn't do anything if we didn't do astronomy, right? hah. of course, there was lots of traveling to the north and to the south (can't do much in the way of east-west in chile) and eventually to argentina, lots of hanging out with chileans lots of getting to know la serena's nightlife, you know, things of that nature. and the beach in la serena was quite lovely, though the water was quite cold. peruse the pictures and the archives for more, and if you get sick of that, head back to my main blog page and seek your fortunes there. buen viaje.
