this is from our pit stop in the middle of the desert. this was the only sign of human life, life at all actually (human, animal, plant), for hours in either direction. that's anjni there looking windswept, the wind was insanely strong.

yeah, so my vacation on mars was awesome, guys. haha. this was taken at another stop. the line cutting across the picture is the panamerican highway, ruta cinco aca en chile.

the vans and some of us milling around. what strikes me looking through all these pictures is just how utterly empty the atacama really is.
so this is why we stopped the second time. you're driving merrily down the panamericana, and all of a sudden on your left rises this huge hand.
this one gives you a little more scale. that's matt looking up in awe there. it's really a shame there's so much grafitti, the bigger shame is that everywhere in chile is grafittied. even the mountains--people spell out their names and political slogans in rocks. so irritating!
