radio astronomizing in the appalachains
back to the main page

so this is us, the motley erira crew, which consisted of a handful of nerdy astronomy kids from across the country. we're standing in front of the dish we took over for the week, a 40' mostly 1420 kHz dish, and way way behind us is the gbt. the dog is jonathan's, his name is max.

see? max. he's the man. and by man i mean dog. lazy dog. except when hiking, he was a good hiking buddy.

this is the control room (where max was sleeping in the last pic). you can tell we didn't sleep much all week. this shall be the theme of several upcoming pictures.

josh is hard to wake up.

i am hard to wake up.

lucy develops interesting new theories on no sleep.

nobody cleans up after themselves on no sleep.

andy is still good at pool on no sleep. elysa and eric look on in awe. i'm probably passed out on the other table.

eric and josh can still model sexy hard hats on no sleep.

dan can set air conditioners on fire on no sleep.

if you engage in such dangerous activies, however, you'd best beware the stick.

but even on no sleep, you can still go hiking and appreciate the fact that west virginia, especially that part of it isolated enough to house the national radio astronomy observatory, is pretty damn beautiful. aquí está el fin.
