a bunch of us hanging out at the main office of las campanas, after piling out the vans.
here we're at the 6.5m walter baade telescope, one of the twin magellan scopes. the guy on the right in the middle of saying something is the assistant director of the place, he showed us around. cool stuff.
here's all 6.5m of that mirror. it's a shame there's nothing in here for scale, because a 6.5m mirror is HUGE. pretty cool to see it swing around and such. but there are bigger better things to come, wait till i post my vlt pictures.
so here's the view looking west from the summit where magellan is. yeah, i know, half my pictures on this website are "view looking x direction from x observatory." sorry. it's pretty down here.
yep, looking west from magellan. those are the good and proper high andes way off in the distance. i think we were at an elevation of maybe 7 or 8 thousand feet, not sure.
