valle de la luna

carrie and tracy out in the desert, getting ready to hop back on those bikes. this was on the way out, and those rocks looked really cool when we were there. not so much in the picture, but ah well.

this is looking up from part of the salt caves we went exploring. salt caves! they were made entirely out of salt. a lot of the rock formations in my pictures are, actually.

carrie in the salt caves.

note to self: pay attention to what kind of film you're using. ah well, so it's kind of washed out, but this is a view through part of the caves. we just happened to have a flashlight on us for no real reason, which worked out most excellently, we couldn'tve made it through the caves without it, and they were really neat and definitely worth it.

a crazy sand dune. i'm not sure, but maybe if you look close you can see the ripples the wind left on it. there's no scale, but this thing is gigantic.

these mountains are kinda hard to see, but the stripe patterns on them are amazing.

yep more from the valle...in the middle way down there i think that's carrie.

this is my coolest picture from valle de la luna. crazy rock formations. there were a lot of things looking kind of like this, with insane shadows and weird shapes sculpted out of them. and all made of salt and sand!

here's me and our trusty guide, rocko. he's trying to find shade, see how he's sitting in my shadow there? he was remarkably good at that; when we stopped to rest at noon, he crawled under my legs, the only remotely shady place around. that's his makeshift water dish next to him...we felt responsible for him after a while, and decided that anyone would need water after that much running through the desert, dog or not, so we spared him a bit from our nalgenes.
