Introduction

Helen Crompton is an international student from England, studying for a PhD in Education at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. These studies involve technology and how it can be used in the elementary classroom, with a particular focus on technology supporting the teaching and learning of elementary mathematics.

Technology goal
To research the efficacy of various technologies, in promoting academic growth in elementary age students in particular in regards to mathematics. Specifically to study how context aware ubiquitous technologies can develop childrens geometrical thinking.

Math goal
To further my research in mathematical pedagogy. I wish to research teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students, considering culture, ability and personal learning style. To also prepare to teach preservice teachers to teach mathematics in K-6.


Web Design

Helen Crompton and founded a web design company in 2001 in England www.visionmakers.co.uk. The company primarily designs websites for schools and other educational establishments.

 

Educational Apps


App design is an interest of Helen Crompton and she is part of a company called Tacticality Software. The company designs educational apps for the iPod Touch and the iPhone. The company have already designed a number of apps for math and language arts. www.tacticalitysoftware.com. Through this role Crompton works on the design process through her knowledge of effective pedagogy through her 19 years of teaching experience.
