Tethered
is my most recent story and also my most polished. It is the story of a pregnant
woman who marries a man she doesn't love to temporarily fix things. The story
takes place on their honeymoon and, as the day passes, she realizes how permanent
her situation really is.
Yours
Truly is one of my more recent stories as well. I warn the reader that it is
very raw. The story takes place in three different arenas, the past, the present
and in letters. Basically, the main character, who is a little insane, obsessively
searches for her father's mistress after his death. It's a hard story to explain.
Bright
is about a year older than the two stories above. The main character in Bright
goes through her daily life in this story. She's old and forgetful; she has
dymentia. This story is basically a window into her day as she remembers the
past but forgets the present.
Until
Death Do Us Part (sorry it's a corny title) is the story of a man whose mother
dies. Basically, the underlying meaning that I, as an inexperienced writer,
tried to get to was comparing the love the main character's mother had for his
father with the love that the main character and his wife have. It's not my
best story but maybe, since it's the oldest in this portfolio, it'll show that
I have improved.
Tears
Like Rain is a story I wrote for my Children's Fiction Writing class. I think
it may scare a kid pretty bad though. It's based on a story I heard when I was
a kid and people I actually know (not portraying them in an unfavorable light,
of course). It's a folktale and it's pretty short. But please, read more than
just this story to get a real sample of my work.
