Kimberly Miller, Ph.D.

My wife is the former Ms. Kimberly Miller. Kim grew up in the Squirrel Hill/Point Breeze area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She lived about 15 minutes from where I grew up. Before coming down to UNC for her Ph.D., Kim' family moved to Wilmington, DE. Her parents still reside there. We met at a party at my apartment in NC in the Fall of 1994.

Kim went to Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. She started college at Grove City College and finished her undergrad at West Chester University, near Philly in the Brandywine valley of Pa. After college, Kim taught high school mathematics for 3 years at Archmere Academy before coming to UNC-CH for grad school. While at Carolina, Kim received her MAT in Mathematics prior to completing her PhD work.

Kim successfully defended her Ph.D. Dissertation in Curriculum and Instruction here at UNC-CH's School of Education. She is now Dr. Hofffmann, a visiting professor in the Mathematics department at UNC-CH. It's funny but precious to hear her students call her Hoffmann. If anyone in the world deserves such distinction for their time and efforts it certainly is Kim. In the meantime, she has also found time to take care of me, Bear the Dog (Walk Lady Emeritus), TA, tutor, and supervise other TAs all the while getting the Tanner Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and being elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Us Stuff

We got engaged on October 17, 1997 at the Cascades Restaurant in Colonial Williamsburg. It poured down rain and ruined my opportunity to use a beautiful waterfall for background to "poping the big question", but after a very nice dinner and some stumbling by me, she said YES!

We recently got married on March 6, 1999 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Our Wedding

Kim is fond of Carousels, pansies, pictures for her many scrapbooks and anything Winnie the Pooh.
