Model Studies and Questions
We want to
quantify cross-shelf transport (associated with the upwelling) using
different transect sections (cross-shelf section, along-isobath
section…) and Lagrangian particles releases
Fundy
- Run barotropic Fundy with/without
depth dependent eddy viscosity (mid water column reduced mixing)
- Look at Fundy climatological solutions
in transect
Is the upwelling
present?
- Force Fundy climatological solution
with monthly mean real wind
Can
wind give us upwelling with climatological mass field?
Do
we need more realistic mass field?
- Run Fundy with “more realistic” mass
field (transect information propagated through the shelf) with real
winds
Quoddy
- Barotropic run with real winds
- Reproduce previous Fundy studies with
Quoddy in short time scales (length of cruises??) with frozen mass
fields
- Try to run Quoddy starting April 03 to
look at how the system evolves with real wind and initial mass field.
Look at:
- Domain size (just shelf or do we
need Gulf Stream?)
- Heat flux (from towers)
- River discharge (??)
- Does the position and intensity of
Gulf Stream matter?
- Use HYCOM vs climatology
- HYCOM vs cruise comparison
- Preliminary work looking at remote
SST+SSH and cable transport data for this period is needed
- Where is the upwelling water coming
from?
- Does the inclusion of realistic mass
field affect the skill of model runs?
- Comparison with:
- ADCP velocity
- NOS water level
