Classmates' EOTO Readings (LJR)
Global Copyright Infringements (J.R. Lee)
I am an avid downloader of music from kazaa lite p2p network. I am a beginner in understanding all the different viewpoints. Who are all the players? Who loses money? Where does all the money go? This last question is the best! I have never heard an answer that I know is complete and objective.
Before I checked through the links, I was confused by one of Lee JongRak’s fears:
3. The gap in understanding between copyright holders and copyright infringers impede cooperation to find sensible and reasonable solutions.
I think this would make more sense if I understood what percentage of the copyright infringers are aware of what they are doing. I am sure some do and others do not. Of the aware people, again, some people are thoughtful about it and others are careless. In any case, I am part of the group that does not know.
I visited the recommended RIAA homepage. I did not find that it clearly made their case for damages, at least not in the Issues section. I want to know more before and after statistics before I can judge.
In fact, most of these recording companies are related to hardware manufacturers, like Sony. These are the same companies that are improving the technology to make home theater and recording viable. My point is not that they brought it on themselves, but it is ironic, no?
So, I found this specific resource that may be worth reading:
1> http://www.virtualrecordings.com/ahra.htm.
For fun reading, I think the following two sites make a case against the RIAA. Maybe they are just trying to justify themselves. In any case, here they are:
1> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/43472 has a lot of profanity. This is an emotional response.
2> http://www.whatacrappypresent.com/ is a funny response. I enjoyed it.
3> http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Anti_RIAA_Cental/ seems like a good place for information but I could not find a balanced site with both views being discussed. Searching for RIAA and blog did not give me a good site.
Thanks,
Hui
