The BBC did a commendable job in condensing the contents of Titus Groan and Gormenghast into a 4 hour video. Many literary scholars comment that the main character of the Peake's first two novels is actually the setting itself (Gormenghast) and the lavish and imaginative sets indeed do justice to Peake's vision. Some critics of the video noted that there was too much light shed upon the confines of Mervyn Peake's shadowed castle, but the producers were merely coping with the limitations of airing a program on television instead of at a movie theater.
