The Vernadsky National Library of
Ukraine
The National Library of the Ukraine is the largest library in the
country with well over thirteen million items. The library was
founded in 1918 to be "a center for information, research, culture and
publishing." This website provides location, contact information,
and details on the history and holdings of the Vernadsky Library. It is a
single page with no links except for an email address. The library
provides services to government officials as well as to the general
public. It specializes in Library Science, Book Sciences and Information
Technology.
Regional Universal
Research Library
This is an extremely thorough
website. It provides information on the history of the library and its
holdings as well as details about the town and region that the library
is found
in. A visitor to this site can search the online catalog. It is also
possible to view a
gallery of illustrations taken from old and rare books in the
collection as well as a brief description of the items. These come from a
personal collection that was left to the library after the death of the
owner. The
collection contains not only unique books, but also museum quality
artifacts and objects.
The State Library of
Ukraine for Children
Not all of this site is available in English but the parts that are, are
charming. There are pages where children can write each other, where
books for children are recommended and where pictures drawn by children
are exhibited. Most of the pages were created for children
although there are pages aimed at parents and educators as well. There
is access to the online catalog but it does not read requests in
English. There are links to other children's libraries in Russia and in
the United States. Links to other useful internet sources for parents,
teachers and children are also included.
